Karen A. Schriver
Karen A. Schriver received her Ph.D. degree in Rhetoric and Document Design from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA, in 1987. She went on to become a professor of rhetoric and document design at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA. She is a researcher in information design, plain language, and people-centered communications. She has taught at the University of Utrecht, Utrecht, the Netherlands; the University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA; the University of Stellenbosch, Stellenbosch, South Africa; and recently, at the University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden. Her book, Dynamics in Document Design (Wiley, 1997), has been called a classic in information design and technical communication. Her research interests focus on designing compelling communications for busy people using diverse media. She is currently working on a book about evidence-based information design and plain language. She has received 12 national and international awards for her work.
